About Barry Windsor-Smith

Barry Windsor-Smith studied for three years at the London art school, where he graduated with degrees in Industrial Design and Illustration. In 1967, his first work was published: pinups for British Marvel. In 1968, he created 'X-Men' #53, published at Marvel Comics. He was the original artist on 'Conan the Barbarian', that was written by Roy Thomas, at Marvel Comics (1970-1973). He did the artwork and writing on various Marvel titles including 'The Avengers', 'Daredevil', 'Dr. Strange', 'Fantastic Four', 'Iron Man', 'Machine Man', 'The X-Men' and others. He is the creator, writer and artist of 'Weapon X' at Marvel. He is the founder, owner, and sole artist for The Gorblimey Press, and creative director of Valiant Comics. At Valiant, he wrote and drew 'Archer and Armstrong', 'Eternal Warrior' and 'Solar and Unity'. He co-created 'Rune' at Malibu Comics and was the artist of 'WildStorm Rising' #1 at Image Comics. He founded the Windsor-Smith Studio. His work brings together influences from various people and eras: Jack Kirby, The Pre-Raphaelites, Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Shakespeare, Dickens, Harold Pinter, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. His work hasn't been limited to comics - he also works as a painter, designer, illustrator, art director for films ('The Hand' with Oliver Stone), publisher and teacher of classical drawing. is 'BWS: OPUS' Text (c) Lambiek
